This month’s Friday Faves are:
- Instant Rockstar Hard Rock Hard Hold Wax
- L’Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara
My first fave this month is perfume. More specifically, two of my newest scents. The crazy thing is, they are totally different but I love them each in their own way. The first is La Vie est Belle by LANCÔME. I first tried La Vie Est Belle Eclat and liked it. Then I tried the original and fell in love. I got a bottle for Christmas and have been wearing it almost every day.
I consider LVEB a fragrance just about anyone can wear. It feels a bit mature so I don’t see my teenagers wearing it but I’m sure they could for a formal occasion. When I say it’s a bit mature I don’t mean it’s old lady-ish. It’s just complex.
La Vie Est Belle is considered a gourmand fragrance. Gourmand fragrances are generally warmer fragrances best worn in cooler months. They contain notes that come from “edibles” such as vanilla, almonds, honey and caramel. They almost smell dessert-like. It’s the perfect scent to wear this time of year! The opening comes alive with black current and pear notes while the main body notes are iris, jasmine and orange blossoms. The dry down, which is what hangs around the longest, consists of praline, tonka bean, vanilla, and patchouli.
Don’t let the Patchouli scare you! I don’t like Patchouli but it’s very subtle in LVEB and doesn’t seem to overpower it at all. Some people may consider LVEB a sweet scent which it is but I don’t find it sickeningly sweet. It’s one that you can still smell on your skin hours after you spray it which means the staying power is AWESOME!! If you’re looking for a warm, comforting fragrance this Valentine’s Day give La Vie Est Belle a try. Test it a couple of times to see how it wears on you and if you like it grab it. But be prepared to pay a pretty penny. The 1.0 oz. bottle runs $74! Luckily one or two squirts is all you need.
my second perfume is…
The second perfume I’ve fallen in love with is one that I’ve been searching for for about 2 years. I saw it at TJ Maxx over 2 years ago but didn’t buy it. Huge lesson learned!! Grab it when you see it!! Well, I’d been patiently waiting, checking all the discount stores near me every time I went in but I never saw it again. Then one night before Christmas this year I was shopping at TJ Maxx again and there it was. Just hanging out on the perfume rack. I snatched it up quicker than you can say Dolce & Gabbana. So what is this elusive fragrance I was obsessed with? L’Imperatrice 3 from Dolce & Gabbana’s Anthology Collection.
L’Imperatrice 3 is a far cry different from La Vie Est Belle. As I mentioned earlier, LVEB is a warm, elegant fragrance while 3 is all fruit. When you first spray 3 you’ll get a burst of watermelon and kiwi. Very fresh and light. As it wears you detect tart rhubarb and pink cyclamen and finally a bit of wood. It’s considered an ozonic or aquatic fragrance and I tend to agree with that opinion.
I can honestly say that I wish it stayed on the skin longer but I’m still satisfied with its longevity. The bottle is very heavy as is the lid which is quite surprising. It feels great in your hand. L’Imperatrice 3 is not easy to find though I did see it at Sephora semi-recently. I would suggest finding it online at perfume discounters like fragrancenet.com. I recommend wearing this fragrance in the spring and summer even though I couldn’t resist using it this winter.
my second february fave…
I’ve discovered a new gem in hair styling products! Once again I found this fave at TJ Maxx. (I could probably find a favorite every time I’m there!) I recently got my hair cut and wanted a new wax or pomade. I’m always on the lookout for new or different hair and makeup products to try so when I saw this canister one day I was intrigued. For less than $5 I figured it was worth a try.
The product is a hard wax from Instant Rockstar. They are an Australian company that has been around since 2000. I’ve never seen any of their products before but I’m quite impressed with the one I bought. The texture of this wax is more like a paste to me. It’s sticky and could easily be over-applied if you’re not careful. I like to use it sparingly in spots of my hair that need a little oomph, definition or separation. It’s also great at taming flyaways or stray hairs.
Would I buy this again? Absolutely if I found it for the right price. You can order it through their website but it’s pretty darn expensive. I’d love to be able to try more of their products though.
February’s last fave…
My last fave for the month is L’Oreal’s Voluminous Waterproof Mascara. I know I’ve had other mascaras on my FFF before but I’m a makeup flirt. I love to try different kinds and varieties every so often. I’ve used Voluminous before and decided to come back to it recently.
This is a drier mascara. I had been using Maybelline’s Lash Sensational for a long time and that was a wetter formula. I still love that one but I’ve been liking the results from the Voluminous so much so I bought another color to add to my collection. As I said, it is drier but it’s not necessarily clumpier. I comb out any clumps that I do get so it’s not a big deal for me.
Performance is up there with my other faves. It’s very waterproof, doesn’t flake or rub off and holds my curl all day. Those are my three must-haves when it comes to mascara. You will need to use a long-wear or waterproof makeup remover when it comes time to taking it off because it won’t come off with plain soap and water. This mascara is best suited for those who want thicker lashes as there is not much of a lengthening effect. Voluminous comes in numerous colors, regular and waterproof formulas and with either a straight or curved brush.
Have you tried any of this month’s faves? If so, let me know!
