This month’s faves are:
- Redken Thickening Lotion 06
- e.l.f. Blush
- Silicone Face Scrubbers
This month I’m focusing on highlighting products used on your face and hair. My first product is one I’ve been using since December. If you’ve checked out any of my other First Friday Fave posts you’ll know that I love a good volumizing hair product. A little while back I bought a travel size bottle of volumizing gel from Pureology. I loved it but found out soon after that the product was being discontinued. I set out to find a comparable product and the Redken Thickening Lotion 06 is it!
This stuff is amazing! First let me tell you what I love about it. For starters I can use a nice sized squirt and it never makes my hair look or feel oily. That is one of my biggest concerns with hair products, especially gels. I work a nickel size dollop throughout my damp hair after I towel dry it. When I dry my hair with the hair dryer it has much more grip and texture than without the gel.
I haven’t noticed any build up even though I use it every day which is a plus. My only caution is that it may be a little drying for some. I’m pretty sure there is alcohol in it but not enough to stop me from using it. When your hair is limp and lifeless without product like mine, you don’t mind a little dryness if it’s gonna help give you body. I just make sure to condition regularly and use a product on the ends to combat any drying effects.
Lastly, the bottle I bought is huge and will last for a while! I got mine at Ulta during a sale. There is a 5 oz bottle and a 16.9 oz bottle. The large bottle is the best deal.
The next fave is a complete steal at $3! I’m talking about e.l.f.’s adorable little blush compacts. They are not huge, but it’s no big deal. They’re just the right size in my opinion. What is big about these blushes is the color payoff! I can not believe how pigmented they are!
The blush compacts come in five different colors and I have the three that my local Target carries. I have Berry Merry, Mellow Mauve and Blushing Rose with the last two being my favorites. The texture is smooth and silky, much like high end blushers. You’ll need your own brush to apply the blush with and even though the compact includes a mirror it’s pretty small. Still for $3 I’m not complaining!
My third fave is this little silicone face scrubber I picked up at my local Ross store. Mine came in a pack of two and cost less than $4. These little guys are fantastic at helping my face feel super clean after cleansing each night.
I wash my face twice each night, once with a makeup removing cleanser and I follow up with another more advanced one. First I wet my face with warm water and use a pump of Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser which I spread over my skin. Then I take my scrubber, wet it and massage it all over my face. It feels nice, not scratchy at all. My skin feels super clean afterwards and then I follow that with my more age/skin targeted Mary Kay cleanser.
If you feel like your cleanser isn’t getting everything off at night, especially hard to remove foundation then you may want to invest in some of these scrubbers. They are very easy and comfortable to use and give gentle exfoliation each time you use them. Best of all they can be found in most stores and on Amazon for super cheap!
