First Friday Faves May 2020

Faves

first friday faves may

This month’s faves are:

  1. Milani Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper
  2. Old Navy Jean Jacket
  3. Sonoma Goods for Life® Leggings from Kohl’s

My first fave for May is the Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper from Milani Cosmetics. I’m now the proud owner of three of these babies. I’m a firm believer in buying multiple colors of products I love whether it be lip gloss, clothes or shoes. I have Luminoso, Sparkling Pink and Soft Rose, which is my fave.

So what’s so great about these lip glosses? Well for starters, I love the cooling, tingly feeling they give my lips. It’s not a burning cinnamon feeling but instead a cooling peppermint sensation. I swear I’m addicted to it! Another thing I love is the applicator. It’s a sponge tip doe foot applicator but it’s larger than most drugstore lip gloss applicators. The size makes it so easy to apply. And it applies smooth as silk.

The colors are sheer although I get great color payout from my Soft Rose. It’s very creamy and even though it claims to be non-sticky I definitely can tell it’s on my lips. It’s not an annoyance to me though. The formula contains peptides and hyaluronic acids to keep your lips smooth and moisturized. And even with the creamy texture I still get very decent wear out of these glosses. These plumpers are fairly inexpensive, come in lots of shades and are definitely a staple in my makeup bag!

My second and third May faves are clothing items. The first item is Old Navy’s Jean Jacket for Women. Remember how I wrote above about buying different colors in things I love? Well, I have this jean jacket in two colors, New Dark Authentic and New Medium Authentic. Let me tell you why I love these jackets.

two jean jackets

I am not a tall person. I’m only about 5′ 2 1/2″ tall. I consider my arms and legs to be short-ish when it comes to coats and pants. This has been an ever-present problem since I was young. I’ve been hunting for the perfect jean jacket for the longest time but everyone I’ve found has fit awkwardly. And since losing 25 pounds I really have no idea what size I am. I instinctively choose larges but sometimes now find even the mediums too big. The most frustrating part about the jean jackets I’ve tried is the arm length. No matter what size I try, the arms go down over my hands.

Well, I had been perusing Old Navy’s website recently and they were offering an awesome sale. If you aren’t on their email list you need to sign up now! They send out daily emails letting you know about their various specials and one day only offers. I had tried to order the jean jackets on a one day $15 special but I never completed my transaction (I was so mad at myself!) so I waited for another good deal. I was finally able to score both on sale along with an extra percentage off which made them $17.50 each so it was still a steal.

My only gripe about the jackets is one that I have with today’s denim in general – the stinky dye. Let me know if you know what I’m talking about. It’s the smell of some of today’s jeans and it reeks! Even after you wash the denim it’s still there. One of the jackets has that smell. I washed both with my favorite Borax and baking soda and dried them in the drier for a few minutes to soften them up but I can still smell that smell although it’s fainter. They would be absolutely perfect without the smell but it’s something I can try to get rid of.

The best part about these jackets for me is that even after washing and drying (a few minutes) they fit great! The arms are THE perfect length for me! I don’t have to roll the sleeves up to see my hands!! They are also a great length in the torso, not cropped but not long and boxy. And they have just the right amount of stretch. I’m in love!

My third fave are the Sonoma Goods for Life® Leggings.  These are the best leggings – EVER!  In keeping with the apparent theme I got going this month, I have them in four colors – black, navy, grey and cheetah print (I’m wearing the navy as I take this pic).  I don’t know about you but I have kind of been living in leggings during this whole stay at home thing and these are my favorite ones to wear.

three pairs of leggings

The first thing that sets these leggings apart from others that I have is that you can not see through them. I paid more for my Lauren Conrad leggings and when you bend your knees you can see through them so I can only imagine how wonderful my behind looks in those (that was sarcasm, lol). Not a problem with my Sonomas. The fabric is nice and sturdy, not overly thick but solid. They are 56% cotton, 38% polyester and 6% spandex. I’ve had mine since December and they have washed up remarkably well.

leggings waistband

Another thing I love about these leggings is the waistband. It’s a nice wide sturdy waistband that doesn’t dig into your stomach but offers some support when it comes to belly bulge. And the rise is perfect, not too high, not too low. The leg length is great as well. They are a bit long on me which is fine so they’d work great for those folks with longer legs but maybe not for real tall ladies. Kohl’s runs these leggings on sale often so keep an eye out.

So there you have May’s faves! Let me know if you’ve tried any of them and if you love them, too.
