First Friday Faves – May

Faves

first friday faves may

This month’s Faves are:

  1. Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri Top Coat
  2. Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar and Stain Remover
  3. Ever Clean Cat Litter

Every week or so I do my own nails, no salon for me.  For those of you who paint your own nails, what’s the worst part of the process?  If you said waiting for them to dry, you’re not alone.  I hate not being able to do anything while waiting for them to dry let alone cure which is why I only paint my nails right before I go to bed.  I know you’re saying “But what about those dreaded sheet marks?!” right?  That’s where Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri Top Coat’s magic works.

When I do my nails I do a base coat, two coats of color, sometimes a glitter if I’m in the mood and then a coat of SHIDTC.  If I use glitter and it’s rough sometimes I’ll do two coats of the SHIDTC.  I give it a couple of minutes to dry then go to bed being careful to not lay on my nails but when I fall asleep, whatever happens, happens.  Ninety nine percent of the time I wake up to beautiful nails, no marks!

The other thing I love about this top coat is the shine it gives my nails.  It lasts forever and speaking of forever, this stuff keeps my polish looking good for a week!  And did I mention you can get it for less than $6 at Target or Wal-Mart?!

My second favorite thing is a sleeper product.  I never ever would’ve bought this stuff if I had not read about it in a cleaning article a year or so ago.  I don’t even think I ever saw it before I actually looked for it.

The bar is from Purex and it’s called Fels-Naptha.  I love the look of the packaging, it seems very old-fashioned almost like something your grandmother would’ve used.  It’s a simple soap bar that can be grated to use in your washer or rubbed on stains before washing.  I use it to pre- treat stains and I get better results with it than any other stain remover I’ve used!  I simply wet the stain and a corner of the bar, rub the bar on the stain until it’s worked into the fabric then wash as usual.  You can buy it at Wal-Mart  for super cheap.

My third favorite product is an oddball.  It’s something that most people don’t want to talk about unless you’re a cat person, which I totally am, and then it’s like the best kept secret.

I remember years ago when I had my first two cats.  My hubby and I hated the litter box and we always complained about spending $8 on a bag of litter every week or so.  Well fast forward to today.  We currently have five cats and the regular litter we had used years ago just wasn’t cutting it.  I didn’t want ‘that house’ that smelled like, well five cats lived here, so I did some research and narrowed my choice down to one.

We decided to try Ever Clean litter.  At first my husband balked at the price but I knew we had to try it so we gave it a whirl.  I’ll admit, it is pricey at roughly $20 for a 25lb box but it is worth every penny.  I mix two different Ever Clean formulas and could not be happier.  It works great at controlling odors and forms easy to scoop clumps.  The only con I can think of that may turn some people away is the dust.  It is a dusty litter but I’m willing to overlook that due to the positives.

Have you used any of this month’s Faves?  Let me know how you like them.
