This month’s favorites are:
- Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia
- Power AirFryer XL
- Amazon Prime
Phillips’ what? And why does she love it? I know, it’s a weird Friday Fave but hear me out, you are going to love it, too! I don’t know about you but I love wearing makeup. Even though I’m 46 I still suffer from an oily T-Zone. I try to look at it positively, like at least my skin isn’t a dried up prune. While the excess oil may be somewhat beneficial at my age it’s still an annoyance when my nose gets shiny 1/2 hour after I put my foundation on.
I have tried numerous drug store face primers and oil mattifiers and nothing, nothing has worked to control the oil or keep the makeup from sliding off. Well a couple of years ago I read somewhere that milk of magnesia makes a good face primer. I was skeptical but willing to try it. For the record, I used a generic milk of magnesia from Wal-Mart at first but I’m currently using Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia. I haven’t seen any difference in performance between the two but I couldn’t find a generic the last time I bought it. Also, I recommend using non-flavored m.o.m..
Well let me tell you, I loved the results and was very happy with the way my foundation performed throughout the day.
So how do you use m.o.m. as a primer/mattifier?
Most likely you will not have to use it all over your face. It’s probably best to use the m.o.m. only where you are oily, for me my nose and sometimes forehead and chin. What I did then and continue to do now is shake up the bottle to mix it well. I unscrew the cap and dab my finger in the lid to pick up some liquid on my fingertip. I then tap my finger over my entire nose making sure to cover my larger pores and then dab it anywhere else I may get oily.
Only a small amount is needed. You should be able to see a matte cast on your skin but you don’t want a cakey white patch or you may find it difficult to cover with foundation. You can use a beauty blender, finger or brush to apply your foundation after the m.o.m. dries. It may take a little trial and error to get the right amount but trust me, this stuff really keeps the makeup in place!
Why I love my Air Fryer…
When air fryers first started to gain mainstream attention my husband said he was interested in getting one. I wasn’t necessarily sold, though. He would come home from work and tell me how some of his co-workers had them and how they raved about them. After hearing so many good things about them we decided to check them out.
We had no idea what to look for so we went to Kohl’s and checked them out. Still undecided about what we needed or wanted we left without buying one. A couple of months later we finally chose one. We knew a regular sized fryer would not work for our family because the interior basket was too small. The fryer we chose, the Power AirFryer XL has a 5.3 Qt basket, perfect for a family of four.
When my hubby and I first bought the air fryer we weren’t convinced it was something we’d use too often. Some foods we ate, we preferred the taste of regular old fashioned oil frying. On the other hand, I really wanted to embrace the air fryer because of it being a healthier way to eat. Slowly we began experimenting with different foods and cook times.
Microwave + Toaster Oven = Air Fryer
I’d be lying if I said we loved it right away. It took us a while to see the benefits of this baby. Let me just say that this thing has almost taken the place of two of our other appliances, our microwave and toaster oven. I know that sounds ridiculous but seriously, this thing is great! I love to not only fry french fries or onion rings in it but it’s wonderful for mozzarella sticks and pizza rolls, too. Those were foods that were baked in the toaster oven before.
One of our favorite foods to put in the air fryer is chicken wings. We’ve only ever baked or grilled our chicken wings in the past but have now fallen in love with them fried. They are so crispy on the outside and juicy inside we eat them all the time now. What’s awesome is that when we have leftover wings we can warm them up in the air fryer. Instead of having soggy unevenly warmed wings you get hot crispy wings. That’s one of my favorite things about the air fryer. It gives your foods a crunch or crisp that you wouldn’t get with a microwave.
And they are really not that difficult to use, you just have to experiment with time and temp. Cleanup is easy with the non-stick basket which is removable. If you’ve been on the fence about whether or not to get one, I would definitely check the Power AirFryer XL out. They also offer a 3.4 Qt version for those not needing the roomier basket.
